Thanos Writer Doubles Back on Supposed Name after Thanos # 14

In a recent issue of Marvel’s ongoing Thanos book, (Thanos # 14 to be exact) its been revealed that the mad titan and former holder of the Infinity gauntlet was supposed to be given a different name. And now it looks like the current writer for the ongoing book, Donny Cates is making some clarifications about the name.

Spoiler below:

Young Thanos gets sent millions of years into the future where he encounters king Thanos, the only person alive in the universe. The two chat and when Young Thanos (YT) tries to attack King Thanos (KT) he gets a beating he deserves. But KT wants something from YT so he tries to be nice by giving something Thanos doesn’t know, his original intended name.

Sadly, Thanos’ mom goes crazy after seeing her son look the way he does (because of the Deviant gene in him). So before she fully snaps, she names him “Thanos”.

Spoiler ends

So now, Donny Cates (who seriously is an awesome writer) went to twitter to clarify something, namely how “Dione” isn’t really Thanos’ true name.

Go and pick up Thanos # 14, its one helluva read. Also, here’s the synopsis for the issue:

Thanos has journeyed to the end of time to the moment of his complete victory…and he’s not happy with what he sees! Writer Donny Cates and artist Geoff Shaw (God Country) continue the tale of the Mad Titan’s greatest glory and ultimate shame!
