It’s now officially out with SRP Php25,999!

Unboxing

Display

There’s something nice and premium about the realme 12 Pro+ 5G in terms of display. It would probably be the refresh rate or the screen brightness. You can really see how premium this phone is even if its part of the budget-friendly realme brand with the double reinforced glass and the 53° Curved OLED; 0.55mm

The main selling point and the one that really got me going for this phone was how brilliantly they managed to balance everything for the display. If you’re looking for a screen with brightness in mind as well as a good screen size then this is for you as it has 6.7″ Full HD Display with 2412*1080 resolution.

Screen-to-Body Ratio: 93%

The phone’s display also features IP65 Dust & Water Resistance; TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light Certification; TÜV Rheinland Flicker Free Certification; 2160Hz PWM Dimming. If you’re familiar with TUV Rheinland and their stamp of approval it’s like getting a WBO champion raising your hand before or during a boxing match or the grand champion giving you his or her stamp of approval.

The realme 12 Pro Plus 5G also features 20,000 Levels of Brightness which is really really bright. Here’s the breakdown of the various levels of nits the phone can hit. 500 Nits (Typ); 800 Nits (HBM); 950 Nits (Peak);

realme 12 Pro Plus 5G’s refresh rate is 120Hz

In-Display Fingerprint Sensors are very fast as expected and as established by the previous realme series.

Design

realme has a real badass here with the realme 12 Pro Plus 5G as they took elements of a luxury watch even going as far as working with International luxury watch designer Ollivier Saveo whose body of work includes brands like Rolex,
Roger Dubuis, Piaget, Breitling, and more. There are a total of 3 colors you can choose from with the 12 Pro Plus 5G namely beige, green and blue. For this review, we’re using the beige colored variant.

This smartphone also gets added props because it’s very thing, lightweight and easy to handle.

And the returning “Premium Vegan Leather” is back from the realme 11 series for this new one.

Camera

Realme continues to kick ass when it comes to their cameras and the realme 12 Pro Plus 5G follows the tradition. The main camera sports a 64MP Periscope Portrait Lens; one of the highest megapixel counts on a telephoto lens; with up to 3x Telephoto Zoom and 6x In-Sensor Zoom for up close and personal portrait shots. This also allows up to 120x SuperZoom for shots from far distances. Also paired with OIS.

It’s all fancy jargon but what it means is that the realme 12 Pro Plus has good quality zoom and even on 1x zoom, photos look natural with proper lighting and angles. The photo above you see was taken with the realme with a night blue backdrop and standard studio lighting. For the undiscerning eye, it really does look like it was taken with a DSLR but surprise, surprise, its really just the 12 Pro+ 5G.  Special thanks to Techlokal’s power duo of Apple and Andre for this wonderful pose!

You might say “hmph, that’s only because you’re doing it in a controlled environment aka a studio setup” but here’s the thing, even when outside, whether you’re using the main camera or portrait mode, you still get great shots.

Every bit of detail comes alive and the colors aren’t too artificial either.

You can also expect the in-sensor zoom capabilities for other modes in the phone including the Portrait Mode, Street Mode, Night Mode, Video, and paired with new filters co-made with Claudio Miranda. This cinematographer also worked together with realme for this phone and came up with three filters that you can for portrait shots namely the Maverick, Journey and Memory.

The “Maverick” filter

The “Memory” filter created with Claudio Miranda for the realme 12 pro plus 5g

It takes some wicked outdoor wide angle shots with the main camera with the colors livelier with the help of AI focusing and the wide camera shots starting at 0.6x.

Here’s a sample of the photo mode’s selfie or front camera which comes with a 32MP Sony IMX615 Selfie Camera. This would mean that it’s got some serious firepower when it comes to taking photos even in dimly-lit areas. Of course when you take selfies outdoors, you won’t get any problems at all.

One of the best features for the phone is the zooming capabilities. The main phone has up to 6x zoom which works both for photos and videos.

Here is a sample of the realme 12 Pro Plus 5G photo zoom.

And here’s another set…

I’ve tried other zooms from other smartphone brands and their zoom capacities and I can honestly say that the realme 12 Pro+ 5G has the best. Not only is it 6x (as opposed to last year’s 5x zoom) but you also have to remember that this is a budget-friendly smartphone brand. You can also see that regardless of the lighting the images are not getting distorted or getting fuzzy-ed down.

And the realme 12 Pro Plus 5G also has you covered when you’re shooting at night with the main camera. Take a look at these Night shots…

Here’s another example, this time the video zoom for the 12 Pro+ 5G.

Storage

Above you’ll see the amount of storage you can get out of the box. This eliminates the need for expandable memory and you can store more videos and photos and even songs on your favorite streaming apps like Spotify, Youtube, Youtube music and Netflix!

UI, UX and Performance

The realme 12 Pro Plus 5G comes with the standard realme UI which is based on the new Android 14 OS. Word of advice for new users, you need to update the realme UI for optimal results. It won’t take the whole day so be sure to update.

What should you expect from this smartphone and why is it important that we have an extra powerful processor which in this case is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 (4nm; 5G). This new product from realme provides support for high refresh rate (see display for more of that), support high grade camera hardware (to match the speed and ability of the actual rear and front cameras), support the GPU’s power, support the clock speed such as 2.4GHz and 2.6GHz.

As with other Android 14 phones, you can also set how you want to operate the phone. And because you have a better refresh rate for this phone, it’s a lot better to go and swipe left and ripe and swipe up to move from one app to another. Swiping down will also bring down the settings and some quick way-of-life icons and buttons like vibrate mode, airplane mode and more.

You can also see that during the review period for the smartphone, it’s only hit 113GB which includes storage hungry stuff like Genshin Impact, Call of Duty Mobile and other games like Tower of Fantasy.

Also here are some of the results when I ran the phone on various benchmarking apps:

Gaming

The realme 12 Pro Plus 5G definitely has it ready for users who also want to occasionally play on their smartphones. I’ve already pointed out that the phone has a badass processor in the form of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 (4nm; 5G). Most of the games we all play look great too with the 6.7″ screen.

Battery

With 5000mAh, the realme 12 Pro Plus 5G is dependable enough for a whole day at work. And when it does get drained, you can also bank on the fast-charging capabilities of the phone as realme built it to have 67W SUPERVOOC Charge. You can also optimize your battery life and phone life with some nifty features including the ever-present “Power Saving Mode” and the new smart charging setup where the phones uses AI technology to adjust to how you charge your phone including how long its plugged.

Final Thoughts on the realme 12 Pro Plus 5G

I honestly think that the realme 12 Pro Plus 5G is the perfect phone when you want optimum performance whether its for work or leisure. It’s definitely pricier compared to the other models available under the realme 12 series but its also the one that has better quality and longevity. So if you’re planning of getting a new phone this year and limiting yourself to just one, then this is definitely worth getting mostly because of the main camera but also probably because it really looks good. You’ll want to capture more moments too with the surprisingly awesome camera. The vegan leather design also elevates the look of the phone so that also works to your advantage.
