Here’s my take on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episode 1 which stars Tatiana Maslany as She-Hulk/ Jennifer Walters.

I loved the first episode for a number of reasons. For starters, it keeps in line with the source material both volumes actually, the John Byrne run as well as the modern Dan Slott run which is also where we get the whole courtroom drama usually takes place.

I forgive the show for straying away from the courtroom and quirky courtroom drama (or comedy in this case) because we need some time to get to know the character, what makes her tick and what makes her a likable character. There’s also the fourth wall breaks that flows seemingly well into the narrative; yes Deadpool did that a lot but comics Shulkie did it first. Just check out the cover above to see how often she does fourth wall breaks.

I hope that they have more in store for Jameela Jamil‘s Titania character other than be the villain of the episode. I am half-expecting that she becomes a rival to Jen at some point in time.

Mark Ruffalo triumphantly returns as Bruce Banner aka Hulk and I never knew I wanted to see a Hulk series but here we are. Now unburdened as an world building exposition dump, Ruffalo’s Banner has more time to shine and develop his character all the while fleshing out his backstory. At least we know the origins of his beach front home, what he did and where he did it.

Now I’m wondering when this was built.

It was imperative that they establish the close relationship between Bruce and Jen early on and that’s exactly what they did too for episode 1. Within the first 10 minutes we’re already dropping in on their conversation and their care for each other especially when Jen gets a drop of Bruce’s blood after the accident.

Nothing much going on with the other supporting cast but I’m hoping they really shine next episode. I did like Nicky’s role in all of this, convincing Jen in the courtroom to hulk-out to stop Titania from getting what she wants. I laughed a little when she reminded Jen of her shoes and subsequently giving it back to her once the action’s all but done.

So far so good with this Disney+ series. I want to see more of this series especially the official appearance of Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe complete with his yellow costume.
