Why is Gokai Red / Captain Marvelous wearing an eyepatch in Ten Gokaiger?

One of the more intriguing aspects about the movie Ten Gokaiger was the reason why was Captain Marvelous wearing an eyepatch in the movie.

Before we proceed, we might hit on some spoilers so SPOILER ALERT

After a nice battle between the baddies and the reunited Gokaigers, we find the space pirates having lunch in a restaurant when they are casually goofing off and planning what to do next. It has been ten years since their last major battle and they decide to give back the ranger keys to the respective Super Sentai that owns them. Ahim (Yui Koike) then asks Captain Marvelous aka Gokai Red (Ryota Ozawa) what to do with his eye.

Marvelous then casually says that he was wearing an eyepatch because he has a sty.

For those unfamiliar with a sty, its described as a “A sty is a painful, red bump that forms on the edge of your eyelid. It may look like an acne pimple. Sties may cause discomfort, but they are not usually serious and are easy to treat”.

While it would have been cool to see that he was injured in a fight with a stronger opponent, this was a more comedic and lighter reason for the eyepatch. I would have liked the darker and violent reason so that there could be a reason for more Gokaiger projects down the line.

However, one Super Sentai could not be contacted. That team had disbanded and each member went with their own separate paths.
