Due to the insanely weird timeline for this story and other Future State books, let’s just set this decades after the current continuity. In issue 1, Diana visits the Batcave where she makes her peace with a dead Bruce Wayne aka Batman

… and takes one of the Bat-belts as a souvenir and a memorabilia of her fallen friend.

We also learn that most of the world has been dead already and that there’s something in the cosmos that’s killing everything alive.

In Apokolips, Big Barda is chastising Darkseid for doing nothing before Orion appears with his arm missing and warning his father that the entity is already attacking them. Darkseid is such an asshole that he just watches as the dark being consumes Orion and Big Barda…

…and flies away from Apokolips.

Back on Earth, Diana reaches Themyscira and we learn that Swamp Thing is dying as the world dies with him. Wonder Woman urges him to hold on for a little longer while she plans to convince the Amazons to leave Earth and find a new place to call their home.

But the Amazons have already decided to fight till the end, and Diana has no choice but to join her sisters.

As Darkseid nears Earth, he is approached by Superman.

And the two crash lands into Earth with Darkseid standing over a beaten Clark Kent.

Diana saves Superman before he is pummeled to death by Darkseid and they fight.

The surviving Amazons attack Darkseid as well but they are instantly vaporized by the Omega Effect. Darkseid returns to Superman with the aim of killing him once and for all while Swamp Thing gives Diana a gift before he passes away.

So that’s it for part 1 of Future State Immortal Wonder Woman! Definitely want to see how Diana can get out of this mess. Also can I just add that Jen Bartel’s pencils are so good. It’s a bit lacking in the action sequences but when you have a story of reflection and exposition, she works really, really well.
