People are comparing spectators from the Greenhills Hostage Drama to Black Mirror

A somewhat trending topic yesterday and today was about how spectators during the Greenhills Shopping Center hostage drama were reflecting what was seen in an episode of the bleak sci-fi series Black Mirror called “White Bear”.

Similarities

Society has become numb to this and this is the reason why rather than be an actual help, they whip out their phones to take photos or videos. Some are even doing Facebook live sessions throughout the whole hostage situation. Former security guard Archie Paray took several people as hostages before he was given airtime to talk about his plight. The topic is polarizing yes, but its definitely very very Black Mirror-y.
