Deadpool 2 Release Date Changed; New Mutants Moving to 2019
Fans of 20th Century Fox’s “Merc with a mouth” aka Deadpool should sing praises and bring out the chimichangas because Deadpool 2 has been moved to a May 2018 release!
Deadline reports that all three movies have undergone a shuffle with Deadpool 2 benefitting the most and The New Mutants movie getting the short end of the stick. Gambit’s still there but kinda not because the director they got, Gore Verbinksik just dropped from the project.
The Deadpool 2 release date move to May 2018 was seen as a strategic move because it gets out in theaters one full week before Lucasfilm’s SOLO: A STAR WARS MOVIE. According to Deadline, this second week strategy lets ‘pool gain significant traction and come out swinging when the new Star Wars movie hits theaters.
Josh Boone’s horror-themed The New Mutants movie however will be released February 2019, 10 months after it’s original release date. The report suggests that this will make time for Deadpool 2 to complete it theatrical run across the world. Japan for example is known for releasing Hollywood flicks 3 to 4 months after it’s initial release in North America.
Lastly, the Gambit movie has been pushed for a June 7, 2019 release as opposed to it’s original Gambit release date of February 2019. Either that or some other thing was the cause of Gore Verbinski’s dropping from the project.
One movie that won’t be touched for 2018 is Simon Kinberg’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix which brings back the main X-Men stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence with Sophie Turner‘s Jean Grey taking front and center as the titular Dark Phoenix.
