The Origin of the Drowned (Evil Batman/Aquaman Hybrid) – Batman: The Drowned # 1
Today we look at the origin of the Drowned, the evil Batman / Aquaman hybrid from Earth – 11. Scans from Batman: The Drowned # 1 by Dan Abnett and Philip Tan.
A bit of explanation for this issue. This Aquaman/Batman hybrid hails from Earth -11, the world of genderbent heroes and villains. In this world, Batwoman is Bryce Wayne and she’s got a lot of baggage after the death of her Catman, Slyvester Kyle.
Origin of the Drowned
When we catch her, she’s already killed pretty much most of the rogue ‘meta’ which we should assume includes the Justice League. Or maybe in this world, there was never even a Justice League to speak of. She also monitors the resurgence of the Atlanteans led by Aquawoman. Batwoman also has a gut feel that the Atlanteans are up to no good despite them asking for peace.
Typical of Batman, Bryce Wayne wages a one-woman war against Aquawoman and her people.
The first wave also proves that Batwoman is a better warrior than Aquawoman… case in point…
What happens next is something Batwoman did not forsee, the Atlanteans pretty much drowns the world including Gotham City. And they unleash their huge ass mechs. Batwoman in retaliation goes to the extremes and performs surgeries on herself to even the odds.
And in huge plot twist, Batwoman becomes the protector of this new world which I assume is compromised mostly of Atlanteans. Hell she even redesigned the Bat-Signal.
Definitely another interesting origin story for this character. Would have loved seeing what male Catwoman would look like. Also gotta love Batwoman/ Batman here for actually going through the process.
