In STRANGER THAN HEAVEN, exploration, dining, and entertainment are tied to character progression, with the way players spend their time in each era influencing protagonist Makoto Daito‘s stat growth and skills. Each era unfolds in a different season, lending a unique atmosphere to key locales.

■ Explore Fukuoka, Kure, and Minami, Introducing City Attractions & Activities
1915, Kokura, Fukuoka
A booming steel town where old streets still stand amid rapid modernization. Traditional tiled roofs stand alongside smokestacks, locomotives, and streetcars, creating a lively, densely layered urban landscape rich with character. Ironworkers fill its streets along with townspeople dressed in kimono and western attire.
Kokura offers a wide variety of shops, restaurants, and other facilities, as well as pastimes like arm wrestling, menko cards, and beigoma tops. Explore local homes, fish along the river, or travel by streetcar during your time here.
1929, Kure, Hiroshima
A naval port city built atop winding slopes and canals. Driven by shipbuilding and shaped by a strong naval presence, Kure balances industrial bustle with a flourishing entertainment scene.
Its residents increasingly prefer western clothing, with women’s fashion especially showing the influence of foreign cultures.
Kure offers some of the same pastimes as Kokura, including beigoma tops, while adding new ways to unwind like bathhouses and tehonbiki.
1943, Minami, Osaka
A vibrant, modern entertainment district where the tension of wartime Japan lingers below the surface, shaped by shortages and oppressive restrictions. Light and shadow intertwine: behind Minami’s dazzling main streets lie back alleys lined with dim tenements, wooden shopfronts, and black market establishments. Here, you’ll cross paths with residents in wartime workwear and children laboring to help make ends meet.

Showbiz
Intro to Showbiz
After dreaming of it for years, Daito finally arrives in Japan. Instead of the home he imagined, he is met with discrimination and abuse. Adrift in a land with an unfamiliar language and culture, he struggles to find his place—until Orpheus uncovers his talent for music. In time, Daito rises beyond the role of a performer, emerging as a showman who discovers and elevates new talent.
Showbiz Gameplay
Step into the role of a showman, building audiences through advertising, preparing songs, recruiting performers, and staging spectacular shows. Meet sales targets to earn substantial rewards.
This key element of STRANGER THAN HEAVEN spans the entire story, with each locale offering distinct music, stage productions, and dramatic developments. Along the way, you’ll mentor and produce more than 10 singers, including Keiko Shirai (portrayed by Ado) and Suzie (portrayed by Tori Kelly).
To create your own songs, walk around town to discover Inspiration. Daito works with different composers in each era, and by sharing your inspirations, you’ll unlock new tunes and musical arrangements.
The game also offers a robust Arrangements feature, allowing you to freely change instruments, tones, and even the overall style of your compositions.
Once you’ve selected the singers, songs, musicians, and stage effects like confetti or smoke, it’s showtime!
During performances, cue lighting changes and other stage effects at the right moments to boost audience engagement. Achieve your sales targets to receive handsome rewards. Daito and his performers will also grow as new dramatic developments unfold.

Players can choose from a variety of difficulties, including Easy, Normal, and Hard, to suit their playstyle.
