Remember BATANG X? It looks Poised for a Return

Remember that campy yet awesome film back in the 90s titled Batang X? Well if the teasers are to be taken seriously, there could be a new project based around that very Pinoy IP coming soon!

Check out the teaser that was released sometime in early April…

So if you don’t remember Batang X, this was released back in 1995 and is a sci-fi/ superhero movie directed by the late Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes. It starred Aiko Melendez, Michael De Mesa, Janus Del Prado, John Prats, Anna Larrucea, JC Tizon, John Ace Zabarte, Chuck Perez, Al Tantay, Jaime Fabregas and more!

Batang X is a group of five children with super human potential kidnapped by Dr. Axis, an alien stranded on earth with her spaceship. She needs their power in order to steal a material as a source of energy for spaceship to leave the planet. A-Gel or Anghel Arsenal,l who walks with crutches, gains ability to fly, while his blind brother Kiko or KidLat gains vision power, including eye blast.3-Na/Trina Dela Paz turns invisible and G:Boy/Bugoy has superhuman strength. Last member is Control who’s real name is unknown and who’s very intelligent.

I don’t really remember if it did well in the box office, but I think it did. Because I remember asking my parents to bring me to the cinema to catch this. Mind you, this was also around the time that comic books were starting to become a thing, so superhero stuff was on the rise, and seeing a Pinoy superhero team like the X-Men is just something that was must-see.

Then fast forward to a few years and we get a TV series also titled Batang X.

I can’t seem to find the opening card for the show but at least we know it exists, because we have sample VFX from the artist who worked on the project back then.

And then this new project has been teased and I’m told that direk Lore Reyes is involved as well several groups including Buko Studios and Imageworld! I’d definitely take a look at this project since we’re definitely lacking in the Pinoy superheroes with the last one that worked initially being that last Darna series. Then nada.
