Design
Following earlier releases this year, the Neo 5 GT 5G comes with that eclectic gamer aesthetic, this time in White. They toned down the cyberpunk vibes but retained a bit of that “Gundam” or “mobile suit” vibe with the white color and silver overtones. I’m also a little sad they didn’t reduce the amount of RGB lighting around the phone’s back and sides. Again, it might be due to the price point so it should be totally understandable. It’s also very light, weighing in at approximately 200 grams. I guess removing those extra features made it lighter.
There are several things I really did enjoy while reviewing the nubia Neo 5 GT 5G. For one it’s super light, and its very positive wit it’s messaging “Born to Win”. Secondly, it doesn’t follow the trend of letting the camera get all the protrusions all over with special “cases” or boxes. Instead, they opted to put everything inside and keep the entire phone flat. The rounded corners also make the phone so easy to grip and clutch, and it doesn’t feel like a hundred-kilo electric brick.
The only drawback for me here is that the side panels can be a little too busy, and I may not be a fan of minimalism, as we not only have the volume control and the power button, but you also have the two “air triggers” at the top and bottom, AND there’s also a cooling vent.
The phone comes with 2 nano-SIM trays and can also use eSIM technology.
What really stands out between the normal nubia Neo 5 GT and Neo 5 GT 5G is the active cooling fan. It’s not just a design that makes it more aesthetically pleasing; they actually made sure that the design works to improve the phone’s performance. The intake and exhaust vents that line up throughout the phone really cool it to help improve performance for more high-end and demanding games.
The Neo 5 GT 5G’s plastic finish feels plastic, but at the same time its premium quality plastic plus it also looks really good.
Display
At this price point, you’ll be glad to know that the nubia Neo 5 GT has a solid display featuring a 6.8 AMOLED screen with vibrant colors and deeper contrast. The 144Hz refresh rate also promises and delivers a smooth scrolling experience regardless if its on social media or video streaming platforms. The animation is also smooth thanks to the refresh rate which you can, by the way, customize to some extent.
It’s also because of the 6.8-inch AMOLED display that we can actually enjoy watching videos, going through social media like Facebook and even some light to heavy gaming, as we get a bigger maximum resolution of 1224 x 2720 pixels.
The screen also has a bigger sampling rate of 550Hz touch sampling which puts it up there among the more serious gamer-centric smartphones. It also drastically eliminates lag, which is crucial if you’re training to be a pro-esports player or just someone really good at a specific game like COD Mobile or PUBG Mobile.
Camera
Here are some of the sample shots using the nubia Neo 5 GT 5G main camera:
Battery
This smartphone comes with a big battery. A bigger battery than its contemporaries in the market today. The 6210mAh battery offers an insanely deeper level of usability than phones in the same price range with similar specs. This smartphone also supports quick charging, taking around 45 minutes to an hour for a full charge.
The other cool feature for the phone’s battery aspect is bypass charging, which means that when it is enabled during gaming, this smartphone bypasses the battery and instead uses energy from the charger. This not only makes it more efficient and prolongs the battery life. It also lowers the heat buildup on the phone and allows the device to maintain stable performance.
Here’s the breakdown of how long the phone has when performing various tasks.
Music – 90.7 hours
Video- 22.6 hours
Gaming – 14.0 hours
Navigation – 15.9 hours
Standby – 840 hours
Gaming
The real firepower for the nubia Neo 5 GT 5G is gaming. For this review, I used two popular games, namely Mobile Legends Bang Bang and Call of Duty Mobile.
It’s great that we get what we had with the Neo GT and other variants of the nubia which is the option to toggle between different performance settings with the use of the Gamespace app. Through the app you can set your gaming to a balanced more or Eco mode or Rise mode.
I’m very pleased with the performance of the nubia Neo 5 GT 5G for MLBB. During this review period of testing, I adjusted the game’s setting for a higher setting.
Software and User Interface
This phone runs on Android 16 OS running together with MyOS 16. Nubia also promises that there will be at least two major OS updates that will keep things fresh for phone buyers who don’t buy phones all the time.
There’s also Demi AI, an actual AI companion on the phone. Just like the nubia Neo 5 GT . It’s cute and pretty but its really purely aesthetic.
Demi is adorable and has a ton of customization available. You can also make her appear in the home page or activate her as an app function.
We like our waifus out in the open so she stays right there.
There’s also a good amount of customization available for the nubia Neo 5 GT 5G Special Edition like basic options for the shoulder triggers
As well as options for liquid cooling circulation.
I would suggest that you turn the cooling fan on as much as possible, especially when you’re playing games on the phone. But to lessen the eventual wear, lower the settings and stick to balanced mode.
Cooling
The Neo 5 GT 5G Special Edition also has a special AquaCore Cooling System, the first in this line and series to help improve the performance for sustained performance for gaming and casual use.
To further make things cooler when the phone is running, we also have a Flowing Liquid Cooling system. Thanks to a piezoelectric micropump, heat is quickly dissipated with coolants that run around the entire section of the smartphone.
nubia Neo 5 GT 5G Special Edition – Final Thoughts
The nubia Neo 5 GT 5G special edition is an exciting addition to the Neo 5 series. It has a solid display and great gaming aesthethics. The cooling system is really worth noting as it helps push your gaming experience to the next level. Being able to switch between different modes for the cooling is also worth getting.
The shoulder triggers just like previous releases are also a god send especially when it comes to playing shooter games like Call of Duty Mobile and PUBG Mobile.
Meanwhile the graphics is smoother thanks to the display and the processor and the refresh rate. Gamers can enjoy every small detail for games like Mobile Legends Bang Bang or Honor of Kings where things have been scaled down. The details will be more noticeable in games with bigger aspect ratios such as Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves.
The battery is also worth noting here as its specifically bigger than other phones on the same price range plus brownie points for that charger design.
The cameras both front and back are decent. Dont expect so much but it will do the job of documenting and taking photos but the quality really isnt there. Its not the phone’s strongest suit anyway.
The nubia Neo 5 GT 5G special edition is now available in stores and through online platforms like Shopee and Lazada. It is currently priced at
