Quick thoughts on the new series Margo’s Got Money Troubles starring Elle Fanning as Margot Millet, a young woman who turns to OnlyFans after finding out she’s pregnant and has no funds to raise a baby on her own.
Here’s the show’s premise:
Margo’s Got Money Troubles centers on Margo Millet (Elle Fanning), the daughter of a Hooters waitress, Shyanne (Michelle Pfeiffer), and a former professional wrestler, Jinx (Nick Offerman). After becoming pregnant by her English professor (Michael Angarano), Margo turns to OnlyFans to support herself. Reconnecting with her estranged father, who shares wisdom gleaned from his wrestling days, Margo achieves remarkable success on OnlyFans.
Overall, I thought the first episode had a lot of promise. We get a glimpse of the lives of Onlyfans models who are really just in it for the money but at the same time we get some bits and pieces of professional wrestling brought to us by Jinx Millet, Margot’s dad. It’s also a nice touch to see the two form a bond after years being estranged. Nick Offerman is always a hoot to watch especially now that he’s playing a retired pro-wrestler.
As a 90s kid, I’m also glad we’re getting more of Michelle Pfeiffer as Shyanne, Margot’s mom, who definitely hates the idea of showing her body off online for cash. You can emphatize too where she’s coming from or her where her character is coming from growing and being a young adult in a Hooter’s where she is constantly subjected to the male gaze.
But really, the star of the show had to be Elle Fanning who is still fresh off her awesome appearance in Predator: Badlands. Now from playing a good android helping a young Yautja she’s playing an expectant mom who has to go through what we locally call “kapit sa patalim” just to get by all the while dealing with the betrayal and hurt of being left alone. This story is real and its a big wake up call to both parents and young adults about the dangers of unplanned pregnancies and how it drastically changes everybody’s lives.
