How did Optimus Prime end up with Megatron’s arm?
One of the biggest curiosity for new readers of the Energon Universe aka Skybound Entertainment‘s Transformers ongoing book is how did Optimus Prime end up with Megatron’s arm?
In this post, we’ll answer the question as to How did Optimus Prime end up with Megatron‘s arm?
So this is set in the Energon Universe, the shared world of Transformers and G.I. Joe.
In the first few issues of the Transformers book written by Daniel Warren Johnson with art by Mike Spicer, the Autobots find themselves in a heated battle with the Decepticons. Optimus Prime works with the humans proving his good intentions and stopping Starscream and his team from leveling the town.
During one of the fights, Optimus loses an arm in a rather surprising way. Prime stepped in to save Cliffjumper from being killed by Skywarp. During the fight, the humans that they were trying to save fire a rocket launcher at Optimus Prime while he’s still stuck on Skywarp’s gravity weapon.
The humans continue opening fire at the Cybertronians and Spike gets shot by a stray bullet. A shocked Optimus Prime rips his dangling arm from his body and uses it to smite Skywarp.
He actually beat him badly too.
Rather than focusing on himself, Optimus focuses more on the injured Spike and quickly transforms into his truck form to rush Spike and his dad to the nearest hospital.
Issue # 4 shows us Starscream trying to chase Optimus, getting him more injured and even partially blowing up the hospital where the doctors were trying to treat Spike. Thanks to Autobots Jazz and Cliffjumper, the trio repel Starscream and gives the doctors the time to treat Spike’s wounds. But due to the earlier battle, the hospital lost electricity which makes it difficult to treat Spike’s bullet wound. Optimus Prime saves the day once more by using the precious energy from the Matrix of Leadership to power the machines and help Spike recover.
Later in the issue, Wheeljack chastises Prime and calls him out for being reckless in using the power and energy from the Matrix of Leadership. And since the Autobots have an energy crisis, they are unable to heal their bodies, Wheeljack proposes to Prime to use one specific part much to the shock of the Autobots leader.
In the end, we get to see what exactly what they did to Optimus Prime. An Optimus Prime with Megatron’s right arm, the one with the cannon.
