Ichiro Mizuki passes away due to Lung Cancer at age 74

Legendary singer and performer Ichiro Mizuki has passed away at the age of 74 due to lung cancer!

Popularly known as the “King of Anime Songs”, his agency broke the news that he passed away on December 6 at the age of 74.

He was referred to by fans and fellow performers alike as the Aniki (アニキ, “big brother”) of the anison, or anime music genre. He produced the singing duo Apple Pie since 1990 and created the Anison band JAM Project in 2000.

Mizuki made a huge impact as a singer for popular openings to anime songs in 1971 but he really started his career in 1968. He has performed for over 1,200 tracks including the Mazinger Z and even Kamen Rider!

According to reports, he has been battling cancer since July.
