DC League of Super-Pets Review
Here’s my DC League of Super-Pets Review which stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and more! Now showing from Warner Bros Pictures Philippines!
DC League of Super-Pets Trailer
So this is basically the formation of the super pets and the origin of their powers and how it ties directly to Superman, Lex Luthor and the Justice League. It’s also the story of our main characters Krypto and Ace going through a big catharsis that gives them new insight into their world and how they need to change a little to improve their lives. Without going into the spoiler territory lets just say that a little guinea pig from Lex Luthor’s lab manages to capture the Justice League and terrorize Metropolis and now its up to a depowered Krypto and his animal allies to save the world and the Justice League.
The humor here was spot on whether its from contextual jokes to easter eggs that just doesn’t stick with DC’s yard. Yes, they even wrote dialogues and jokes that crosses over to Marvel’s side of things. That actually makes the second time in recent time that they did this, the first was the various Stan Lee cameos in Teen Titans Go to the Movies…
Then there’s also manic and insanely good voicework by Jumanji stars Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart. Honestly, who doesn’t love these two. And would you believe that they also nail all the sad parts and backstory here?
I’m also a bit of a sucker for the squirrel Ch’p here who makes his DC movie debut. And if you’re a Green Lantern reader, you’ll know that Chipp is one of the adorable GLC members and he’s here in this movie!
I also have to give high marks to SNL alum Kate McKinnon who once again blows us away with her comedic delivery as she plays the role of the film’s central villain Lulu. She’s got spunk and quips and definitely delivers a bitchy and feisty performance even when the character’s a foot small.
There were actually moments where I remember her last SNL skit before she ends being a regular on the show with Lulu’s voice in the film. Plus the film ends in such a way that she can return in future films if WB decides to make a sequel.
Oh and Keanu Reeves and John Krasinski as Batman and Superman respectively was worth the ticket. Honestly this film opens up a chance for The Matrix star being Batman as long as he’s not busy doing those John Wick films.
And lastly, I want to comment on how well the final act played out. It’s actually a pretty good Justice League sequence at the end with the team shedding their foolish comical approach from the first two acts and going to business against the threat in front of them (which I will not spoil). Its soooo sooo good seeing the League in action although I kinda miss having Martian Manhunter with them.
Overall DC League of Super-Pets is such a treat to watch. I highly recommend it to comic book fans as well as for kids. Do me a favor and watch this if you don’t want to miss Superman calling himself a certain Marvel character.
And don’t forget to stick around for the post-credit scenes.
SCORE: 10/10
