John Romita Jr returns to Amazing Spider-Man in April 2022
Marvel did a nice announcement today as John Romita Jr returns to Amazing Spider-Man!
Here’s the teaser image that Marvel dropped earlier today!
Nothing’s been provided other than the legendary artist will be returning to the Amazing Spider-Man books starting April 2022. This should be a big deal considering that he worked on the book for a long while and worked with writer J. Michael Straczynski to give us one of the seminal runs in the 2000s.
JrJr did several works with Spidey starting in 1977 with Amazing Spider-Man Annual # 1 and later co-created characters like Madame Web, Morlun and more. His last work with ASM was back in Amazing Spider-Man # 600 which was also the introduction of Doctor Octopus aka Otto Octavius taking over Spider-Man’s body and paving the way for the Superior Spider-Man.
Romita Jr then went to work with DC Comics in 2014 working in various titles like All Star Batman, Superman, Superman: Year One and Action Comics.
Oh and I didn’t forget that he worked with Mark Millar to create Kick-Ass and the subsequent characters in the book including Hit-Girl.
Now this is also interesting considering the two Spider-people namely Peter Parker and Ben Reilly will eventually confront each other in March as the current Beyond story arc comes to a close. Who knows maybe when JrJr joins the book, Peter Parker will officially step down and Ben Reilly will take over as the title character on a full time basis.
