Mortal Kombat’s Hiroyuki Sanada starred in a Pinoy movie with Lorna T

Today I learned that Japanese actor Hiroyuki Sanada apparently starred in a movie in the Philippines decades before he was cast as the legendary Scorpion in Warner Bros Pictures’ Mortal Kombat.

Apparently the film he appeared in was called Sigaw ng Puso where he topbilled with Lorna Tolentino and Sharmaine Arnaiz.

The film was directed by Kazuki Omori and was released in 1995, produced by Premier International Corp.

Sanada looked like he had the trappings to go international even back then.

The actor has appeared in numerous Hollywood and Japanese projects since then with notable titles like Choudenji Bioman (1 episode), The Wolverine as Shingen, Kaneda in Sunshine, Sho Murakami in Life, Oishi in 47 Ronin and Akihito in Avengers: Endgame.

In Mortal Kombat, he plays the role of fiery and vengeful warrior Scorpion who also competes for Shang Tsung, one of the film’s baddies.

Mortal Kombat stars Lewis Tan, Joe Taslim, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tadanobu Asano and Ludi Lin.
