SDCC 2019: Thor 4 now Thor: Love and Thunder, Natalie Portman Returns as New Thor
One of the surprising announcements from SDCC 2019 comes in the form of Thor 4 which has now an official title – Thor: Love and Thunder.
And we all know that director Taika Waititi recently delayed production of Warner Bros’ Akira adaptation to start work on Thor: Love and Thunder.
During the Marvel Studios panel at Hall H, its also been made official that Thor star and MIB International topbillers Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson will be reprising their roles as Thor Odinson and Valkyrie respectively.
That’s not all, Natalie Portman is also set to return as Jane Foster. The big twist is that she’s set to become the new goddess of thunder too.
This may come as a shock to casual moviegoers but the female Thor has been a thing already for quite some time. In the comics, Jane Foster became the new Thor after the events of Original Sin.
The series was written by Jason Aaron with art by Russell Dauterman, who also brought us the recently concluded War of the Realms.
Now the question is whether Waititi would follow some of the story beats from the Aaron book including Jane Foster having cancer and the use of Mjolnir only kills her physical body.
Time will tell. For now, let’s enjoy the fact that they would be doing a female Thor movie with Natalie Portman to boot.
