Iron Man Wears the Infinity Gauntlet

Did you know that there was a moment in comics history when Iron Man took control not just an infinity stone but the entire Infinity gauntlet?

This happened in Avengers # 12 but had actually started in Avengers # 9 written by Brian Michael Bendis and John Romita Jr.

In this story the Red Hulk joins this iteration of the Avengers just after their time and dimension hopping mission where they meet the children of the Avengers and we see the now invalid “Tom-Line”.

While this was happening Parker Robbins aka The Hood escapes prison and starts a bid to get the Infinity Gauntlet. (Side note he later guns for the position of Sorcerer Supreme). The next few issues devotes the quest to get the stones and even an encounter with Thanos.

The penultimate issue sees Iron Man getting his hands on the Infinity Gauntlet which he uses to send Hood away.

This ends in a good way though as Tony Stark relinquishes the power a d we later see the Illuminati reforming with Captain America getting his own Infinity Stone and officially making the necessary calls when they need to assemble.
