Jude Law Joins Captain Marvel as Mar-Vell

Jude Law’s been getting a lot of great roles as of late. He’s already been seen as the young Albus Dumbledore for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and now he’s joining the MCU via Captain Marvel as the original Captain Mar-Vell.

Variety reports that Law would play Dr. Walter Lawson, the human identity of the Kree soldier Mar-Vell, the original Captain Marvel. Reports suggest that the actor would play mentor to Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel just like in the comic books from the 80s and 90s.

  • Captain Marvel will be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Half Nelson)
  • The current script was written by Meg LeFauve (Inside Out), the previous draft was written by Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy)
  • Captain Marvel will be set in the 1990s Marvel Cinematic Universe and will depict Larson’s Captain Marvel fighting the shapeshifting alien invaders known as the Skrulls.

The dude joining the MCU also means that we now have to pairs of Sherlock Holmes and John Watsons running around the shared universe. We’ve got Doctor Strange’s Benedict Cumberbatch together with Everett K. Ross (Black Panther, Civil War) aka Martin Freeman.
