Karnak vs Fantomex in IvX # 3 (Spoilers)
Inhumans vs X-Men # 3 or IvX # 3 dials down all the mutant-inhuman fights to work on the story and tease readers of even bigger fights between the two species running around the Marvel Universe and there’s one that definitely got my attention. Karnak vs Fantomex.
So a little backstory. In IvX # 1, Emma Frost sends young Jean Grey to trap Karnak of the Inhumans lest their planned attack fails. The biggest worry they have is for Karnak to see the weakness in their plans to “kill” the Terrigen Cloud so they plan how to snare him up properly.
They actually succeed with Jean Grey getting the best of Karnak making him unavailable when the X-Men teams storm the Inhumans home of New Attilan.
In IvX # 3, Karnak has finally had enough of his torment and decides to act.
First he removes the fake Jean Grey he’s been conversing with and looks for an exit. Then he traverses down the steps of his tower
Also if you read Karnak’s dialogue, you can get some nuggets of inspiration from him. I don’t know whether Inhumans vs X-Men writers Charles Soule and Jeff Lemire know that their lines have that effect but they do.
Also yes, its the return of The World, that microscopic place where Fantomex was born and where Evan aka Genesis aka Kid Apocalypse was also raised during Rick Remender’s run on Uncanny X-Force.
This is where these two will fight and hopefully we get an interesting fight in the next issue of Inhumans vs X-Men.
If you’re wondering why I’m fawning over the Karnak vs Fantomex fight its because its the visual equivalent of the immovable object and the unstoppable force. Karnak is the badass inhuman that can see the weakness on anything he chooses. Meanwhile Fantomex is the Weapon X mutant with the power of misdirection. He’s so good with misdirection that he can even trick powerful telepaths like Psylocke and Emma Frost.
So yeah, definitely tuning in to issue 4 for the resolution of this.
