Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’s First Scene confirmed to be set in Mustafar

Some bit of Star Wars for today. Let’s talk about the very scene in the film which was directed by JJ Abrams where we see Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren going berserk.

It was weird that they never revealed the name of the planet where we see this gorgeous action sequence where Kylo eventually gets his hands on this With wayfinder.

It has been revealed however that the planet is a familiar one to fans. It’s the planet Mustafar.

This has been confirmed by various sources including the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary to be the planet Mustafar. The adopted homeworld of Kylo Ren’s grandfather, Darth Vader.

This was a cool moment for me because it sets up a big connection between the movies. Mustafar was where Revenge of the Sith ended with that duel between Ewan McGregor’s Obi Wan Kenobi and the fallen Jedi knight Anakin Skywalker who has become Darth Vader.

Then in 2016’s Rogue One movie, we see Darth Vader having his own castle there. It gives an expanded look on what he’s thinking and how he wants to punish himself.

Then for the third movie in the sequel trilogy we get to see Mustafar once again with Kylo Ren murdering scores of beings who has been referred to as Alazmec. A sort of Darth Vader groupies/ cultists. It’s also ironic that it’s the grandson of their hero that murders them in cold blood for something they possess.

Also it’s a bit odd for me that there are now trees existing in this fiery planet. How did the Alazmec do this?

Here’s an excerpt from the book as published by Entertainment Weekly.

Kylo soon outpaces his stormtrooper escorts as he cuts a swath of destruction through the Alazmec who attempt to block his path to Vader’s castle — or rather, its crumbling ruins. Kylo enters the castle grounds with purpose and finds an ark containing an artifact that will lead him to answers.

Cue Alanis Morrisette’s famous song.
