It looks like Star Cinema and the Ravelo family have finally locked down actress Liza Soberano to take over the role of Darna for the upcoming remake.
Well maybe not the Ravelos but definitely Star Cinemas. The Darna movie project has been in limbo for years now. Would you believe they actually waited for Angel Locsin to train before the actress finally bowed out of the project gracefully due to some issues. Then it took awhile before ABS-CBN’s movie arm found the right talent to take over the iconic role.
Then the soft-spoken Liza Soberano is heavily rumored to have gotten the role of Darna. And we are definitely happy fanboys for the casting if ever it gets confirmation. Liza’s manager Ogie Diaz is still not confirming the role.
“Hindi kasi kami ang dapat nag-a-announce niyan,” Diaz said, revealing that he has received numerous calls verifying rumors about Soberano’s taking of the role. “If ever Liza will be chosen, yayakapin namin siya ng buong-buo but nag-aabang lang din kami.”
But there’s a dark cloud hanging over this.
We’re now in the age of love teams pandering to the audience. And I am truly scared that Liza actively being paired with Enrique Gil may taint the film that’s OUR version of Wonder Woman. That’s the corporation’s decision and the writer’s initiative. Will she/he be able to give real justice to the character or will we get more pandering to the crowds?
