Shankar who also did the recently concluded Castlevania series initially has stated in an interview with IGN that the script for season 1 has already been turned in, he’s read it and it was “rad”. He also adds that he cannot be more excited about it.

He worked together with Alex Larsen who also wrote the series Yasuke.

Fans can expect a total of eight episodes for Devil May Cry season 1 and promises that it wouldn’t end there as he’s planning a multi-season story for the characters; again, just like what was done in Castlevania.

In the same interview with IGN, Shankar also confirmed that familiar characters from the franchise will also appear including our boy Dante…

…Vergil…

… and even Lady…

The producer also adds that working with Capcom was “a dream” and that he’s currently developing the project with Hiroyuki Kobayashi who also worked on the original Devil May Cry game and some of the Resident Evil games. Kobayashi also worked on DMC Devil May Cry: The Animated Series which was released back in 2007 by studio Madhouse.

“Kobayashi-san has been wonderful,” said Shankar. “It’s seriously a joy to work with Capcom. Their character library is unlike anything assembled.”

So far, the series hasn’t begun production yet but reports say that the actual production for the anime series will begin in 2022.

Lastly, Shankar made it also clear that he did not cast Chris Pratt for the project, a friendly jab on the Hollywood actor and star of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy after fans began showing negative reaction to Pratt’s casting in both an animated Garfield movie as well as a movie adaptation of Super Mario.
