The Suicide Squad post-credit scene explained

Now that James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad movie is finally out its time to take a look and do a post on the film’s sole post-credit scene. So without further delay The Suicide Squad post-credit scene explained.

Before we proceed, there are major spoilers here so SPOILER ALERT

So at the film’s climax, Idris Elba’s Robert Dubois aka Bloodsport landed in front of John Cena‘s Peacemaker as he was about to execute Daniela Melchior’s Ratcatcher 2. Bloodsport already took a liking to Ratcatcher 2 and promised her earlier that she’ll make it out alive. So he and Peacemaker instantly shoot at each other, the culmination of the two’s rivalry established at the start of the film. Bloodsport’s bullet was smaller than Peacemaker thus being able to pass through it and hitting Peacemaker’s neck, supposedly killing him.

Dubois and Ratcatcher 2 leave the scene and end up saving the day against a rampaging Starro the Conqueror.

After the credits rolled, we see two of Waller’s team namely John Economos (Steve Agee, who also did the mo-cap work for King Shark) and Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) going to the a hospital to pick up somebody they dug up from Corto Maltese.

The doctor attending to them tells them that this guy they dug up was a hero in the conflict to which Economos replies that he was kind of a douchebag. The scene then shifts to the patient they brought back which turns out to be John Cena’s Peacemaker.

When the pair are asked what they are going to do with him, they make reference to their actions at the film’s climax minutes ago, when they helped out the remaining members of Task Force X (namely Bloodsport, Harley Quinn, Polka Dot Man, King Shark and Ratcatcher 2) as they find a way to take down a very angry Starro the Conqueror who just busted out of his containment cell under the place called “Jotunheim”.

To them this is revenge for their actions and now they have been tasked to “save the fucking world” according to Harcourt.

The Future

This ending leads in directly to the upcoming HBO Max series titled Peacemaker which is a spinoff show starring John Cena reprising his role as Peacemaker. The series was written and directed by James Gunn so you can expect that it’ll be as violent and action-packed as TSS. It’s also going to bring in some new characters.

So aside from Cena, Agee and Holland will be joining Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo and T2 Terminator himself, Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith aka Peacemaker’s dad.
