Wally West Leads the Titans in New DC Rebirth Ongoing
Newsarama reports that the recently returned Wally West will be playing the leader for the new TITANS book for DC Comics’ DC Rebirth.
According to the post, Wally will be joining the Titans fresh from last volume’s adventure; Titans Hunt. Yes, he’s going to be leader and yes he’ll be taking over from Dick Grayson aka Nightwing, who was de facto leader in Titans Hunt.
So this means that there will be two Teen Titans themed books for DC Rebirth, one would be the Teen Titans book led by Batman’s son Robin (Damian Wayne) and this book which will be written by Dan Abnett with art by Brett Booth.
Not only do we have a new roster, Wally West who returned to the DCU in the pages of DC Universe: Rebirth # 1, will also get a new costume…
Writer Abnett had this to say about Wally and his role for both the Titans ongoing and the one-shot Titans: Rebirth:
Titans Rebirth is all about the return of Wally. There are obviously going to be huge ramifications, because Wally is so important to Titans history. So it’s a wonderful reunion, and it’s a very big deal.
He kind of rounds out the team. And also, he’s sort of a messenger, a bringer of this warning. He has seen, to a certain extent, what it is that they’re not aware of, but they’re aware that something’s wrong.
The whole point of the story is to try to unlock the mystery of what’s going on.
That places it right in the middle of Rebirth in terms of its importance.
Abnett also stated that Wally will be leading the team towards solving the mystery of the “10 Missing Years” that he talked about in Rebirth # 1. Which makes sense because if Dick knows the red-headed Wally but their not the same age physically, there’s something going on and the Titans have and will get to the bottom of this.
I dunno about you guys but I’m totally psyched for this new book and I really do want to see more of Wally West in this post-New 52 era.
