DC Knightfight # 1 Spoilers – Why Did Nightwing Become Batman

So the biggest question for last week’s DC Knightfight # 1 by Joshua Williamson and Dan Mora from DC Comics, is what happened and why did Nightwing become Batman in DC KO Knightfight.

Spoiler Alert folks!

In this issue, we find out that Batman had some prep time and has equipped some Apokolips tech that activates a boom tube if Batman goes inactive for some time. And after getting “killed” by Joker at the end of DC K.O. # 1, Batman turns into a statue but is quickly transported to Gotham City.

While getting his bearings, he gets attacked by a group of people all wearing Robin costumes…

These four Robins include Duke Wilson, Jean Paul Valley, Carrie Kelly and Terry McGinnis (as the Internet suggests). The four try to lead Batman into a place for an ambush and we get to see this universe’s Batman who also is apparently Dick Grayson/ Nightwing.

Bruce and Dick come to blows and its revealed that this universe’s Batman had gone crazy, thinking himself as the only one that should be Batman but because he’s already going old, Bruce takes a dip in a Lazarus Pit. And that’s also the time that Nightwing took the mantle of Batman from Bruce, defeated him and took charge.

After an initial fight, Batman and Batman eventually talk with Dick Grayson bringing Bruce Wayne to the BatTower which features the Nightwing/Batman logo proudly displayed on its roof.

Dick also revealed that he opened a Robin academy, letting people who wish to become Robin get the necessary training to do so. Dick even enlisted the Titans to help teach the would-be Robins to become better heroes. Dick also unmasks to show how much he’s grown since Bruce’s “fall”.

The two continue to fight with Batman asking Dick if he was also put in the same situation, would he also give up the Batman mantle to one of these Robins, which catches Dick Grayson off-guard. The fight becomes fierce with Dick managing to best Bruce with one strong uppercut.

While Dick wanted to cut the fight off already, Batman realizes that he needs to continue fighting to power up his tech and return to the proper reality. The fight however ends with Dick locking Batman in a chokehold…

Dick then reveals that it was the Lazarus Pit-crazed Batman that ultimately killed Dick’s “brothers” with the issue’s final page showing us statues erected for the fallen Bat-Sons, Damian Wayne, Jason Todd and Tim Drake.
