Dear Satan movie producers apologize for the title, vows to rename the film to be less offensive
The local Pinoy comedy film Dear Satan will be retitled to something else followed by a stream of negative buzz on social media, offending the more conservative crowd according to producer Mavx Productions!
So as we already expected, the conservative Pinoys all showed their displeasure for the title to the Paolo Contis and Sienna Stevens starrer Dear Satan which is produced by Mavx Productions. It’s plainly obvious that the more religiously inclined saw this as a way to promote and glorify evil and devil-worship. Here’s the open-letter that Mavx Productions posted on their social media pages:
The whole point was a funny bit about a kid sending a letter to Santa but misspells it and it ends up on Santa’s lap in Hell. The devil seeing this as something different investigates and shows up and that’s where the hilarity ensues with the end (I’m assuming) making Satan realize a few things about good and evil and Santa also acting as a deus ex machina to fix whatever the hell chaos they create. It’s already a concept that’s been done in comics and on the Internet but I guess it will never sit well with the conservative Pinoys.
I’ll follow this story beat as it continues but I guess what we will be waiting for it the new official title. There doesn’t seem to be anything pertaining to the film’s content. People were really just offended with the title. I guess the old film “My Guardian Debil” starring Jimmy Santos had it better because it didn’t have social media looking at it and commenting on the title.
This is also the reason why GMA probably decided to change the name of Dragon Ball Z’s Hercule Satan or Mr. Satan to Master Pogi when they first did the dub for the Tagalog version of the beloved anime series.
There was actually an earlier film which tackled similar subject matter called “Lucio at si Miguel”, where the titular demon and angel had to work together in a mission given to them. Somehow that didn’t earn the ire of moral guardians despite its overtly demonic premise (even the poster shows a stereotypical devil and angel in their usual get-up).
