The Game That Changed History: A First Look at Squid Game Season 2
Netflix’s mega-hit series, Squid Game, is set to make a triumphant return this year, and the world is buzzing with anticipation. Unveiling tantalizing glimpses of what’s to come, the “Next On Netflix” event today further fans the excitement over a show that remains Netflix’s most popular series more than two years after its release.
Beyond its massive viewership, the series wrote history by winning 6 Primetime Emmy Awards including Outstanding Directing for Hwang Dong-hyuk and Outstanding Lead Actor for Lee Jung-jae, and earned prestigious accolades including the Gotham Award for “Breakthrough Series,” and an “AFI Honor in 2021”.
A heart-pounding finale clip presented at the event shows Gi-hun making a critical decision. Portrayed by Lee Jung-jae, who won Lead Actor in a Drama Series at the 74th Primetime Emmys®, Gi-hun abandons his US plans after a mysterious call and embarks on a chase with a motive.
The new season will also welcome other beloved characters back like Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) and Recruiter (Gong Yoo). Adding to the intrigue, a new character played by Park Gyu-young makes her debut, sparking curiosity about the new character.
Visionary director Hwang Dong-hyuk returns to steer the ship once again. Following his historic win at the 74th Primetime Emmys® as the first Asian to clinch Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, Hwang resumes his role as director, writer, and producer. With a dream ensemble cast by his side, expectations are high for the mastermind behind the Squid Game juggernaut.
