And in case you don’t know your wrestling history, Ron Simmons aka Farooq was the first African-American WCW World Heavyweight Champion. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2012. He also made memorable runs in the WWE as the leader of the faction known as the Nation of Domination taking in upstart Rocky Maivia aka Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock. Around the time he retired, he was part of the classic APA or Acolytes Protection Agency with another former champion, John Bradshaw Layfield or JBL.
The Von Erich wrestling family was a tragic story with five of the six Von Erich kids dying at an early age leaving the only surviving Von Erich, Kevin. Jack Jr., was accidentally shocked and drowned in a puddle at the age of 6 in 1959, outside his Niagara Falls home. In 1984, David Von Erich died in a Tokyo hotel from enteritis at the age of 25. Mike, Chris, and Kerry all committed suicide; Mike took an overdose of Placidyl near Lewisville Lake in 1987 at the age of 23, Chris shot himself in the head with a 9mm handgun in 1991 at the age of 21, and Kerry shot himself in the chest in the family yard in 1993 at the age of 33.
