Dakota Johnson cast as Madame Web for upcoming Sony-verse film

Sony reportedly has cast Fifty Shades of Grey’s Dakota Johnson as Madame Web for an upcoming film.

While its not yet final, Sony are already in deep talks with the actress to play the long-time Spider-Man ally.  Turns out this casting news and film project could also turn into something else with the character already in her senior years and blind too.

In case you’re not familiar with the character this is what she looks like in the comics..

Although Johnson could be the new and younger version, Julie Carpenter aka Spider-Woman who inherited the power and the mantle when Madame Web died at the hands of Kraven the Hunter and her family.

I think that part about her being the older Madame Web could be a bit of a stretch and I could totally see her as the Carpenter.

Also this ties in neatly with the news from last year that Sony had cast Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Kraven the Hunter also for a solo movie.

So given that they are loosely going around making movies off of Spider-Man enemies, I wouldn’t be surprised if they announced a Black Cat movie which was originally intended to happen after Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and the planned TASM 3. They even had actress Felicity Jones do a cameo in TASM 2 as Harry Osborn’s secretary/ assistant.
