Redo the Healer author Tsukiyo Rui explains why he created the series
The controversial light novel turned anime series Redo the Healer author Tsukiyo Rui was recently interviewed by popular Youtube The Anime Guy and he shares an explanation as to why he created the series.
In the interview, Rui recounts how little he knew about light novels and one day bought one and enjoyed it thoroughly. Some time after he also realized that he thought he could write stories himself and add in things he felt was missing in the medium. The has been writing for around 5 years now with 11 to 12 titles under his name. He is especially proud of Redo the Healer because it was the first light novel he made that got turned into an anime, lest alone a title that has been exposed to a large audience.
The creator also went into detail about the creation of the story. In the interview he recounts how much he liked revenge stories but at the same time thought that it lacked something. So he started writing his own revenge story and peppered it with “more hardcore” material. He also states that the title was a gamble, one that ended but being a good “good bet”.
For Tsukiyo Rui, adding the hardcore element also meant that it made it interesting for him and his readers. He did go on for the record that he was very careful about “going too far” with the content and situations that he wrote for the characters in the story, pointing out that he didn’t want to go down the “gory” route and attract the wrong type of readers and fans.
He was also quick to point out that ergular erotic light novels out in the market didn’t sell well so having the revenge element in the story together with the aforementioned sexual encounters was as good fit for the product.

And yes Rui actually did the interview in a fox costume.
