Netflix drops first look at Godzilla for upcoming series Godzilla Singular Point
As we grow closer to the release date of the upcoming Netflix series Godzilla Singular Point, it was bound to happen that they would give us a look at the character designs for the King of the Monsters himself. And that they did today via the Netflix Facebook page!
This Godzilla was designed by Eiji Yamamori and colored by Yuji Kaneko. And in case you’re not familiar with Yamamori, he’s one of the top animators for Studio Ghibli. This means this design’s got “royalty” written all over it and you can clearly see it too. The way Godzilla was drawn here has an air of majesty and respect too. And if you don’t respect the dude, that massive tail can surely do the trick.
Yamamori (Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away) said in a statement this week that he wanted to “keep in mind the original design motif and give it dignity as an awe-inspiring creature that can never communicate with humankind.” His intention with the new design was to also “integrate the image of the early Showa Godzilla, yet see a new first appearance.”
Godzilla Singular Point is being produced by Studio Bones / Bones and Studio Orange. The first season will have a total of 13 episodes. It is slated to air April 2021 and will be directed by Atsushi Takahashi. This release comes hot on the heels of the release of Warner Bros Pictures’ Godzilla vs Kong which will also be released this quarter of 2021!
