Q&A with Lockdown Hero Creator Jergs Correa
If you haven’t heard or played Lockdown Hero before, you really need to take the time out of your busy schedule to do just that. It’s a fun game and very in-line with our current situation (you suck COVID-19). So I reached out with the guy responsible for the game and asked him a few questions about the game which is now available on Steam.
So let’s pick Jergs Correa’s mind and ask him some of the more important things about the creation and development of Lockdown Hero.
Q: What’s the concept or idea behind Lock Down Hero?
Jergs (J):
The game is an open world 3D platformer where the main objective is to help the community during the lockdown pandemic. In this game you need to explore the city and other areas to acquire new skills, gears and items that will help you fight and end the virus. As you progress you will unlock new maps and side quests, there’s definitely a lot of things to discover in the game.
The game also teaches people the importance of wearing a face mask and the consequences of going outside.
Q: What was the process in doing Lock Down Hero?
J: Its an indie game i personally develop alone during Lockdown or Community Quarantine in the comfort of my bedroom. I completed the main game in 5 sleepless weeks, although it was perfect, i still continue to add more maps, quests and game mechanics up to now. The game will have a continuous update every week for more new content on Steam.
Q: Any inspiration for creating the game?
J: My inspirations in this game were from the games that i loved like Zelda breath of the wild, Animal Crossing, Shenmue, GTA, Ragnarok, Castlevania and Dota to name a few. In the game you will notice these inspiration where i incorporated some of its elements. Things like paragliding and stone puzzles came from Zelda, Cute graphics inspiration from Animal crossing, music are Ragnarok inspired, Voice overs were from Dota, Arcade games came from Shenmue, GTA basically for the open world gameplay.
Q: What, for you, is the main pull for this game?
J:This is a fresh take, a multi genre, never before seen kind of open world adventure where a lot of things can be done. Its a combination of different genre in one game. an RPG with Horror, Sports, Arcade, Farming, Racing, dress up, dungeon, memes, shop keeping and sandbox all in one.
Q: What’s your background in creating games?
J: I was Head of 3D animation company for 12 years, the experience i had made my learning curve much easier as i already had the fundamentals for the software transition.
It was stressful yet fun as i learned new things everyday while creating this game.
Q: This was a game done with love as seen with how you promote it and show it not just to your friends, what would be the advice you can give for budding game designers.
J: You’re right, everything will be made perfectly if its imbued with love. My advice to game developers is to create their games from their heart, don’t make a game only because its trendy or a similar game is currently popular. Put all your wildest imagination into your games like there are no limitations. Think outside the box. There are so many game ideas that have never been explored, and once you find it, you will be their next inspiration.
Q: What are some of the challenges you faced making the game that you want to warn game creators about?
J: It’s my first game ever and i worked alone and that’s the challenge.. Everything was first time so i had no idea how to do things at first but eventually with the help of google, self study and experimentation, i learned what i need. Up until now I’m still learning new things.
