First Look: Sony DualSense Controller for the Sony Playstation 5
Sony quietly dropped a first look at the Sony DualSense controller for the Sony Playstation 5 today and it looks…. clean?
Reports suggest that Sony will already be shipping the controller to game designers and developers to align with projects they are currently building for the Playstation 5.
Sony DualSense Features
According to the Playstation Blog, the DualSense controller features the “Tempest 3D AudioTech” which promises to deliver various levels of immersion for users! Sony also states that they have added a built-in microphone into the controller for shorter conversations although they also stated that users should use headphones for longer conversations or prolonged game time.
The “Share” button has been replaced by the new “Create” button which does the same thing. That includes taking screenshots and controlling livestreaming. And they did tease more of this which they plan to reveal soon.
Here’s what the Blog said about the design:
After thoughtful consideration, we decided to keep much of what gamers love about DualShock 4 intact, while also adding new functionality and refining the design. Based on our discussions with developers, we concluded that the sense of touch within gameplay, much like audio, hasn’t been a big focus for many games. We had a great opportunity with PS5 to innovate by offering game creators the ability to explore how they can heighten that feeling of immersion through our new controller. This is why we adopted haptic feedback, which adds a variety of powerful sensations you’ll feel when you play, such as the slow grittiness of driving a car through mud. We also incorporated adaptive triggers into the L2 and R2 buttons of DualSense so you can truly feel the tension of your actions, like when drawing a bow to shoot an arrow.
And if you’re not down with this controller, you’d be happy to know that the DualShock 4 controller is still compatible with the PlayStation 5 so you don’t really have to go gaga over getting the new controller just yet.
So what about the PlayStation 5? Well, Sony is still sticking with their guns that the console would make it in time for the Holidays but many believe that it could be pushed back by a few months thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic around the world.
