Disney and the Star Wars Cast Confirms The Rise of Skywalker Opens December 22
In the many cases where corporate power really helps a lot, we finally got confirmation that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will indeed open in Philippine theaters on December 22 and not January 2020 as initially feared by geeks and fanboys/fangirls alike.
The reveal was done in a playful way with John Boyega (Finn) and Daisy Ridley (Rey) talk about tips to avoid getting spoiled (because they were working on the context that the film opens late in our country). Poe Dameron actor Oscar Isaac then appears and breaks the news that the film will open December 22.

The film was originally believed to be moved to an early January 2020 release date due to the annual Manila Film Festival which pretty much stops foreign films from operating for at least two weeks, the juiciest time for theaters, Christmas to New Year’s Eve (December 31). This of course will affect Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker which was slated for release December 22.
Good thing though the men and women from Walt Disney Studios Philippines managed to pull through. And hey, if you think about it, theaters will get packed no matter what.
