Asus TUF Gaming FX505DY Review (Powered by Home Credit)
Thefanboyseo.com offers up my ASUS TUF Gaming FX505DY review featuring the AMD Ryzen 5 and available for P45,000. Get it today via Home Credit.
I finally got the chance to get a current gen gaming laptop and that’s in the form of the ASUS FX505DY which I got through the use of Home Credit, the Philippines’ leading financial loaning institution. But is the laptop worth getting from the “below 40” price point or should you just skip it altogether and just get a higher spec? Here’s my ASUS FX505DY review.

Just like how Home Credit is right now, this bad boy is actually TUF. It’s built with seriously strong plastic all over the place. You’ll know its not your regular plastic by the way it feels on your fingers. This gaming laptop has the following dimensions 360.4 x 262 x 25.8 ~26.8 mm (WxDxH) and I think that’s the perfect size and shape for a mid-ranger or entry level gaming laptop.
The left hand side houses several USB ports, the power cord, the LAN cable and the audio jack. It’s on the right because of the right handed setup most gamers have. Still, its fairly easy to use even if you are left handed.
The keyboards are soft to touch and that’s because they are chiclet keyboard keys. The main problem I found with this is that you need to get used to typing texts on the board. However, if you’ll be using the laptop for gaming, then it is evenly spaced.
The design for the ASUS FX505DY also makes it tough enough to withstand standard bumps because of the casing and the “TUF” exteriors. It’s also quite easy to lug around with just 2.2 kilograms. It’s actually a nice break from traditional low-range and mid-range gaming laptops out in the market today.
You can check out how the gaming end of the ASUS FX505DY runs like in the embedded video streams below.
IPS-LEVEL NANOEDGE DISPLAY – EXTREME IMMERSION ON AN ULTRAFAST DISPLAY
The new NanoEdge design has a slimmer-than-ever 6.5mm bezel* for extremely engaging visuals in a much more compact package. FX505 AMD Edition features an ultrafast IPS-level panel for supersmooth gameplay with minimal motion blur. Wide-view technology ensures consistent colors when you’re viewing the screen from extreme angles.
Tl;dr – you can enjoy beautiful graphics for both gaming and viewing or even work at various angles because of the “Wide View technology”. Check out the photo below to see what I’m talking about.
Military Grade Exterior
As mentioned above, the gaming laptop has some tough exterior and it even gets a nod from the US military. The entire case has been given MIL-STD 810G passing score. Sorry though, I don’t want to scratch the laptop so no scratch tests here.
The ASUS FX505DY features the “Asus Exclusive” Hypercool technology which is composed of two factors. The patented HyperFan technology which cools down the laptop when running games or even editing videos. The second function is the ADC or the anti-dust cooling system which pretty much cleans the laptop to prolong the lifespan of various parts.
Here’s a look at the ADC’s Anti-Dust Tunnels
Let’s take a slightly deeper look at the ADC system which features the ASUS Exclusive “anti-dust tunnels”. These tunnels force the dust particles that love to gather inside the laptop to exit the unit. These are found at the edges of the internal fans. This would also be a good thing in the long run because it saves you time from opening the laptop and doing a manual clean up.
From the time you open the laptop, it’s system is smart enough to adjust the fan speeds basing it on the temperatures of both the CPU and the AMD GPU. The ASUS FX505DY has three speeds that users and owners could use namely the Silent Mode, Balanced Mode and the Turbo Mode.
Here’s the difference between each mode:
Balanced Mode is the default setting on the laptop. It cools the laptop to lower the noise level for games running under 45dB.
Silent mode pretty much kills any noise that the fans make but still preserves the performance of the PC for games including RoS, PUBG and Mobile Legends Bang Bang.
Turbo Mode offers aggressive cooling settings with high fan speeds and frequencies. This is the perfect fan mode when you’re pushing for high-performance for your games.
This laptop has a great speaker and its perfect for watching your favorite YouTube channel or just playing without headphones.
It does have an impressive AND immersive DTS Surround Sound. This system is optimized for equalizer, games, movies and sports. You can also bank on high-fidelity 7.1-channel virtual surround-sound for headsets.
The ASUS FX505DY comes with the Armoury Crate, a unified system for personalization for the FX series and the TUF line. It features the all essential systems and lighting controls. I had a blast using the ‘crate for settings.
The FX505DY AMD Edition features several I/O ports including one (1) USB 2.0 port and two (2) 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports. These are the perfect slots for gamers and people who just fancy using gaming equipment without even really gaming (no judging bro). The side also holds the HDMI 2.0 slot. If there’s any major concerns I have, its the fact that I feel like the laptop could have gotten more ports for more things to use. It does have the power after all.
Here’s the result from Basemark:
Asus FX505DY Verdict
For its price range, the ASUS FX505DY is one of the best options to get if you want to go anywhere between casual, normal and heavy gaming. The gaming side is dependable and although there may be several hiccups, you have to understand that the laptop is entry level. Still, it’s a work horse. Don’t expect the battery to last a long time, like other gaming products, a good two to three hours disconnected and you’ll hit rock bottom; but the graphics power, the sound and the display make up for the slight hassle.
Also, for the power that it packs, its rather affordable as you can get this for just P39,000 from select computer dealers and stores around the metro.
Special thanks to Home Credit for making it easier for me to be able to actually BUY my own laptop and stream games and create content for my page and Youtube channel.
