Rogue Loses Control of her Powers (Again) – Mr and Mrs X # 5

Rogue just can’t get a break apparently. After getting married to Gambit in the pages of X-Men Gold and going away on a honeymoon, she gets caught in a Shi’ar affair which ultimately cost her the ability to control her absorption powers again. Spoilers from Mr and Mrs X # 5 by Kelly Thompson and Oscar Bazaldua.

In this issue, we finally see that big battle between the Starjammers and the Shiar royal guards come to a close with the idea that the Superguards failed because their targets died which happens to be Rogue and the teenager Xandra.

Gambit is distraught over what had happened to his wife and is in shock. Both the Starjammers and the Shiars leave. Cerise also stays behind to help Gambit when he gets over his shock. In reality however, she is there to pick up both Rogue and Xandra who made it look like they died trying to pull something off.

So Remy is shocked that Rogue is alive again after seeing her die. Naturally this does not sit well because he (a) he already started the grief process (b) she didn’t let him in on her secret (c) he felt like a dummy.

Rogue of course pacifies her husband and that’s when the most shocking thing happens in this series so far. Rogue loses control of her powers again.

Gambit had to resort to use the inhibitor collar they brought along just to be able to to stop Rogue from completely killing all of them.

Feeling lost and defeated once more, Rogue lies down for a bit but gets comforted by her husband.

With a seemingly “happy” ending. Rogue and Gambit returns to Earth to get back to their lives as a couple.

So there, yeah, Rogue just lost her abilities to control her powers. She feels broken but Xandra tells her that her powers have actually evolved. it wasn’t a step back it was a step forward. Now she needs to find out how she can control them once more.
