Is it Just Me or Did SM Youth Confuse Star Trek with Star Wars?
Funny thing happened today as SM Youth went online with their Star Wars catalogue of shirts for teens and adults. That was all fine and dandy (I in fact have three or four The Force Awakens shirts from SM). The seemingly icky part of this whole promotion is that the models seems to resemble more of the Vulcans from Star Trek rather than characters from Star Wars. Take a look below
No eyebrows? Check. Bowlcut? Check. Stoic expression? Check.
That’s totally Spock from Star Trek and not anybody I know from Star Wars. That’s no moon as well.
No but seriously I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes with SM Youth folks but I smell oversight right there. That or the art director’s vision got muddled in the process. Or the art director’s not familiar with the franchise (it could happen you know).
As of writing this, SM Youth had already pulled down the Facebook post after generating so much heat. We don’t know how they’ll respond to this. I’m hoping they take it in stride and make something awesome out of the aforementioned blunder.
Meanwhile Star Wars: The Last Jedi is now showing in cinemas nationwide. The film is directed by Rian Johnson and stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Andy Serkis, Laura Dern, Benicio Del Toro, Gwendolyn Christie and a whole lot more. You can check out my non-spoiler Star Wars: The Last Jedi review while we’re on the subject.
