FIRST LOOK: Mr. Robot’s Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury
Here’s our first look at Mr. Robot star Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury for the upcoming biopic directed by Bryan Singer.
Malek will be playing the role of the legendary rock icon Freddie Mercury in the film Bohemian Rhapsody which will be directed by Superman Returns and X-Men director Bryan Singer.
The film is set for release December 25, 2018 (January 2019 in the Philippines because of MMFF) and will be set in the 1970’s, the high point of Queen’s popularity. This was also the time that Mercury had working closely with Brian May and Roger Taylor including their iconic performance in the 1985 Live Aid concert.
According to Malek, this energy and moment “only adds to the level of confidence that one would need to play Freddie Mercury.”
As Time.com reported, Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury would also require the actor to sing which he is currently doing at the legendary Abbey Road studio.
But don’t expect a 100% “cover” for Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody because the filmmakers are very keen on putting Freddie’s voice whenever and wherever possible. So as it stands, the film would be 50% Malek and 50% Mercury. Although I would be a very happy Queen fan if they put in more Freddie, like 60% of him.
