Anna Diop as Starfire and Why it Shouldn’t be Controversial
Recently it was revealed that Anna Diop as Starfire would be a thing for the upcoming Titans TV series.
I’m definitely good with the casting. That’s pretty much it because I am not familiar with her body of work. She could look the part whether it will be using CG or practical effects.
The thing is, just like the casting for Zoe Saldana as Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy or Zazie Beetz as Domino for Deadpool 2, its met with controvery and negative comments.
And that I don’t get. Will the color of the skin change the character or change the origin? Not likely. Starfire’s character description is still the same according to the character sheet.
She would still be the refuge alien princess from Tamaran and is likely hooking up with Brenton Thwaite’s Dick Grayson.
So why all the hate?
Screen Rant’s article had a valid point, seeing that the Titans TV series would have a limited budget, a non-white actress playing the sexy Starfire would do wonders. There’s a chance that they wouldn’t need too much CGI for the skin color.
But I wanna know. Leave a comment to give insights why Anna Diop is a good or bad casting choice for the Titans TV series.
