So Marvel’s Secret Empire # 10 finally hits stands today and we’re looking at how we got back the real Captain America aka Steve Rogers and not the HYDRA Captain America that’s been the central villain for this event.
Secret Empire # 10 was written by Nick Spencer with art by Steve McNiven, Rod Reis, David Marquez and Paco Medina.
Secret Empire # 9 Spoilers
So as the heroes assemble in Washington D.C. to finally confront HydraCap, we see him in a cosmic cube powered armor reminiscent of the Civil Warrior from the game Contest of Champions.
We get some bullshit stuff from HydraCap and the heroes decide to press on with the attack, special thanks to Hawkeye who did the “Avengers Assemble” schtick now that Cap’s out of commission.
The attack was useless and with a wave of a hand, the defeated heroes disappear and the entire history of the 616 is changed making it seem like HYDRA really did win the war.
He goes back early in the history with Hydra being such a dominant force that some important things from the Marvel U gets swept under the rug or completely replaced by HYDRA like the execution of Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr aka Max Eisenhardt. In this new reality, the Avengers were even formed with HYDRA.
Sam Wilson, the current Captain America makes an appearance after HydraCap’s reality change and he’s untouched because he has with him the piece of cosmic cube that HYDRA needs.
What HydraCap doesn’t know is that getting the cosmic cube fragment also brought in the shrunk down Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier together with Scott Lang aka Ant-Man. The intention was for Bucky to reach both dream Steve and Kobik in the dreamscape universe with the cosmic cube lodge into Civil Warrior Cap’s armor.
We find out that Bucky rescued the two, just when the world around them crumbles.
With Kobik free from her incarceration inside the rebuilt cosmic cube, she returns to the surface, depowers HydraCap’s armor and brings in the “real” Captain America.
Then they talk a bit…
Then there’s a bit of fighting…
They even managed to make a reference to the classic Civil War story featuring Iron Man vs Captain America…
When things were looking desperate, we HydraCap tries to get some additional firepower through Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir.
Unfortunately for him, he’s become unworthy of the hammer (which I recently found out was enchanted by Madame Hydra’s cosmic cube fragment to change the statement from “worthy” to “strongest” and the word “thor” to “Hydra”.
Good guy Cap then goes on and kicks HydraCap’s ass with the mjolnir.
This is only a portion of the stuff that has happened in Secret Empire # 10!
