The Batman Director Matt Reeves Confirms Starting from Scratch
If you’re excited to see Ben Affleck’s screen treatment for the solo Batman movie, you’ll be disappointed to know that the new director Matt Reeves won’t be using the script.
In an interview with MTV podcast Happy Sad Confused to promote his new film War for the Planet of the Apes, Reeves answered questions about the new Batman movie.
He confirms that they would not be using the script that was developed by Ben Affleck, Geoff Johns and and writer Chris Terrio.
Instead he will be working on new material for the story.
No, it’s a new story. It’s just starting again. I’m excited about it. I think it’s going to be really cool,” he shared.
Affleck was originally slated to write, direct and star in the new Batman movie but dropped from the director’s chair when it became too much for him.
Matt Reeves was called in to replace the Affleck as a director. The director showed prowess in writing and directing. His current hits include Let Me In and the rebooted Planet of the Apes film franchise.
One of the jarring problems with Reeves scrapping Affleck’s work is the fate of Joe Manganiello who was originally tagged to play the role of Deathstroke aka Slade Wilson.
Will he still have a place in this new trilogy being added into the DCEU.
