Marvel Teases New Project Called MU with Cullen Bunn and Adam Kubert

Cullen Bunn gets a big push top-billing a new project that Marvel Comics is currently hyping up for a significant announcement on the 1st of September for the project known only as MU.

So we’ll find out what MU will be all about tomorrow and wait for five more months before it gets released in LCS. And then as the book progresses, the final issue will get pushed two more months to give way to creator deadlines and all that.

Interestingly enough though, Cullen Bunn, getting to have a big Marvel book under his name. That’s something Marvel hasn’t done for quite some time. Oh wait, the last time they let another writer other than Brian Michael Bendis do a big book, that writer killed the 616.

What is MU?

There are two theories that I”ve encountered while researching on the project. One is that it could be a look at the new multiverse that Marvel has built up at the end of Secret Wars, with Reed Richards and his family going on an interdimensional adventure (with Molecule Man no less). So its either “MU” is Marvel Universe or a shortened term of “Multiverse”.

The other theory that I picked up was that this could be the grand return of the empire of MU, another lost continent similar to Namor’s Atlantis. We could pretty much have a 21st century version of “Atlantis Attacks”.

Personally though, I want it to be the latter especially since there’s a persistent rumor that Marvel got back the film rights to Namor the Submariner. Remember how they used “Age of Ultron” as a staging point to introduce Angela to the Marvel Universe? This could be the same thing, only this time to revive the now-dead Namor.
