Maisie Richardson-Sellers Joins Legends of Tomorrow as New Vixen
Another heroine joins the cast of heroes and villains of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 and its none other than Vixen; the catch is that she’s played by a new actress in the form of Maisie Richardson-Sellers.
Maisie Richardson-Sellers takes over the role of Vixen from Megalyn Echikunwoke who played Vixen over in “Arrow”. She ditches Star City and moves to Rip Hunter’s Waverider for the second season of the TV show which airs on Warner TV and returns on October 13.
The interesting thing about the recasting is that it takes full advantage of the time-travel aspect of the show. Rather than completely scrapping Echikunwoke’s contribution to the character Vixen, they opt to just make Richardson-Sellers a previous version of Vixen from before the Arrow Vixen’s appearance. In fact she will be playing Echikunwoke’s grandmother named Amaya Jiwe. This will also allow Echikunwoke to continue voicing the Vixen character for the animated online project from time to time.
They still share some common elements such as getting powers from the Tantu Totem; a African mythological hero Anansi. The character has strength like big game mammals and even a healing factor.
Vixen was created by Gerry Conway and artist Bob Oksner in 1978. Here’s something noteworthy, Vixen was also a member of DC’s Suicide Squad and even a member of the Justice League.
Maisie Richardson-Sellers is best known for playing Rebekah Mikaelson/Eva Sinclair on the CW’s The Originals; she also appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
