Freeform Orders Cloak and Dagger Series from Marvel
Marvel’s wildly popular team of Cloak and Dagger will finally be getting their own TV Show; that’s been announced yesterday from Variety.
ABC’s Freeform will be airing the superhero series which also happens to be one of Marvel’s early anti-drug campaigns. As in literally, these two derived their powers from drugs.
The two were created by legendary team of Bill Mantlo and Ed Hannigan.
“Cloak and Dagger” will center on Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, teenagers from different backgrounds who grapple with newly acquired superpowers — Tandy can emit daggers of light, while Tyrone can engulf others in darkness — even as they fall in love.
Did I mention that the two are also one of Marvel’s silver-age interracial couples and they’ve been that way for decades already. One of the most memorable times for me was when they joined the X-Men for a short time during the “Utopia” era…
Recently they made an appearance in Dan Slott’s current volume of Amazing Spider-Man, initially working for the villain Mr. Negative before Peter Parker aka Spider-Man frees them from the mind-control. Now it looks like they’ll be working for Parker Industries’ Hong Kong branch.
Now going back to the TV series; when news broke out, Marvel was mum about it but today, it looks like they’re ready to talk. Jeph Loeb represents Marvel when he was quoted saying:
We are thrilled to be able to explore another corner of the Marvel Universe with Cloak and Dagger,” said Loeb, who will serve as an Executive Producer. “We want to thank Tandy and Tyrone’s fans everywhere who have been waiting for this exciting news.
There’s no production team assigned for the project nor cast. But Freeform has already stated for the record that they are now currently searching for the right personnel to work on this highly-anticipated project. No word yet if the pair would also make an appearance in another Marvel show, Agents of SHIELD.
