London-based transgender model Maria Sofia Sanchez Love is trending at the moment due to a video that’s been circulating featuring a rather disrespectful dance to the tune of Lupang Hinirang.
If she or he seems familiar, its because the model was responsible for the whole trend of saying “Para sa Ekonomiya! Pak!”.
There was never any context and explanation for the video when you hit play. You just see Maria Sofia Sanchez Love standing in front of the camera wearing a red swimsuit. She proceeds to hit play and we hear a recording on the Philippine national anthem, Lupang Hinirang, and then dances.

I usually try to be objective with the way I weite things but in this case its hard not to be angry with this. What was the motive for this? Is Maria Sofia Sanchez doing a social experiment?
Regardless of intention, this is a criminal offense. A serious crime.
Section 38 RA 8491
“The anthem shall not be played and sung for mere recreation, amusement or entertainment purposes except on the following occasions:
a) International competitions where the Philippines is the host or has a representative; b) Local competitions; c) During the “signing off” and “signing on” of radio broadcasting and television stations; d) Before the initial and last screening of films and before the opening of theater performances; ande) Other occasions as may be allowed by the Institute.”
If Madonna had issues after she was seen wearing the Philippine flag, I am sure this would be a rather worse scenario for the transgender model.
This action also hurts LGBT communities especially in the Philippines where its still fighting for equality.
