nubia V80 Design Unboxing

Display

The first thing you’ll notice about the nubia V80 Design is how much it looks like a certain fruit-based phone that’s now on it’s 17th iteration. It looks really good and stylish and I couldn’t believe that this was a smartphone that’s just under P10,000. The plastic frame is decent and comes with the ups and downs of your standard smartphone too including smudges and fingerprints sticking needlessly. It’s also IP64 dust and water resistant but only for water splashes so don’t even think about dunking this phone on the sink.

Dimension-wise, it’s also solid with 6.54 x 3.11 x 0.30 in and weighs approximately 191 grams; not that heavy but also not that light.

Display

The phone’s display is also good with an IPS LCD display running with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1000 nits, it is a good deal. The screen size comes at 6.75 inches with a 85.6% screen-to-body display and is just right for your gaming and entertainment needs. You’ll also be chill with the phone resolution which comes at the maximum of 900 x 1940 pixels and 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

It’s also just OK when it comes to usage under direct sunlight but that’s totally fine.

Camera

For the price point, the V80 Design’s cameras are OK. We’ve got a Dual System 50MP main camera/ rear camera that can shoot wide together with the standard auxiliary lens. Here are some sample shots on the nubia V80 Design:

Additional thoughts: At 50MP it’s good but it could be better. You could also notice that there’s a bit of AI working in the background of the photos helping improve the quality.

One thing that I did notice during the time I was doing this nubia V80 Design review is that the phone works great when taking food shots. Here are samples of the food stuff I took and best of all, there was any hardly any filters needed and it works great even with bad lighting.

Meanwhile you can also shoot up from 720p to 1080p videos at a 30fps or 30 frames per second quality. It’s good for those basic shots like enjoying a nice time outdoors or some basic videos in your home or office. And if you don’t mind shooting on a lower setting, the nubia V80 Design can also do well for vloggers who are starting to get a feel on vlogging or content creation.

Zooming is just so-so to be honest…

Well at least they tried on that aspect. However, shooting at 1.0x and 2.0x is awesome

Let’s also talk about the front camera / selfie camera

For the price of the unit, you get good quality selfie shots regardless of low light or natural light but please don’t expect too much in technical terms because the front camera is only equipped with a 16MP camera. There’s a certain level of depth in the photos that’s missing and the contrast also feels like it needs a little bit more adjustment. But if you’re the type who just wants to take photos then this will still work extremely well for you.

UI and UX

The nubia V80 Design comes runs on Android 16 OS together with their branded MyOS system

There are also a number of interesting AI powered functions and features that are exclusively available with this nubia Philippines smartphone which is neatly tucked at the second page of the Home screen including AI Memory, AI Scam Alert, Live Translator, AI Input and AI Filter.

Let’s take a look at some of these AI apps and how can they help you in their daily life.

AI Scam Alert can be toggled on and off and protects you from those pesky calls from unknown numbers. When the number has been registered as a scam caller, the system automatically blocks the call.

AI writing is a function that helps you write better and smarter and that’s perfect for developing the perfect caption for your Facebook, IG or TikTok posts

As with standard UI and UX, the Android OS 16 is still very intuitive and easy to use. The apps can also be bundled together in a folder or left lying around the home screen and if you want to check every app installed on your phone, they simply swiping up from the Home screen gives you the run down on all of those apps.

This comes in handy when you’re not so sure whether you uninstalled an app by accident which is kind of happening often with a lot of smartphone users to be honest.

nubia V80 Design Final Thoughts

It’s the holidays. It’s time to get a smartphone and replace that old one. Give yourself that well-deserved prize with the nubia V80 Design. Plus, you also don’t have to worry that much with the IP rating at least you know that even if it gets splashed on, it’s going to survive.
