HONOR 400 Pro 5G Review – Great Price with Superior Quality

HONOR takes their HONOR 400 series to the next level with the new HONOR 400 Pro 5G but what’s better and what’s different from this and the recently released HONOR 400 5G?

Design

The HONOR 400 Pro 5G comes in two variant colors locally namely the “Lunar Grey” and the  . The review unit HONOR Philippines sent over was Lunar Grey and it quickly took my interest.

It’s definitely bigger than the HONOR 400 in terms of size but it’s also more than that. The screen to bezel ratio is good and it’s not that distracting because your eyes are trained all around the bigger display. We also have a premium feel for the back design including how the main camera.

While it looks premium and delicate, it’s actually also designed to be rough and tough. The HONOR 400 Pro 5G comes with IP68 and IP69 meaning it’s splash-proof, water resistant and dust proof but UNDER normal use. So you need to still take care of it OK?

Display

The HONOR 400 Pro 5G has a solid display too featuring a 6.7 inches AMOLED display with rounded corners. If you’re particular with brightness then you’d be happy to know that this unit features 1.07 billion colors. It’s bright enough to be able to shine even when outdoors.

Compared to it’s “little brother”, the HONOR 400 5G, the HONOR 400 Pro 5G is a lot bigger with a 2800×1280 registration.

Camera

The HONOR 400 Pro 5G comes with a 200MP AI Camera that promises to deliver great quality images thanks to its triple camera system which also includes:

  • 200 MP, f/1.9, (wide), 1/1.4″, PDAF, OIS
  • 50 MP, f/2.4, (telephoto), 1/2.0″, 0.8µm, PDAF, OIS, 3x optical zoom
  • 12 MP, f/2.2, 112˚ (ultrawide), AF

Here are some samples shots I took using the main camera.

I also have to tip my hat to the zooming capabilities of this smartphone. The HONOR 400 Pro 5G features a Zoom Mode that can go as far as 50x digital zoom. Below you’ll find a sample of the zooming capabilities for the phone.

Honestly at this price point, we should consider ourselves lucky that we’re getting this quality of zooming on a smartphone. It’s not everyday you get a smartphone that can support an image resolution of up to 16384×12288 pixels.

Meanwhile for video resolutions, you can get up to 3840×2160 pixels resolution and here’s a sample:

The front camera is also a step above the previously released 400 5G especially since we’re getting 2 front cameras including a 50 MP, f/2.0, (wide) and a 2 MP, f/2.4, (depth). You’ll see the quality of selfies you’ll get with this device is worth the wait.

Here are some samples shots from the front camera…

AI Features

The AI features are also back with a vengeance! Just like the HONOR 400 5G, this unit comes with all of the good stuff including the Image-to-Video AI feature…

There’s also AI cutout which you can use to play around with photos you took with the smartphones.

The HONOR 400 Pro 5G is also equipped with the AI Enhanced Portrait feature that delivers ultra-high-definition Portraits that ensure the true colors of every subject shine through. With its enhanced AI Super Zoom feature, the HONOR 400 Pro boasts an AIGC-powered telephoto capability of up to 50x, making it perfect for capturing distant subjects.

UI and UX

As expected from HONOR 400 Series, the transition and refresh rate is smooth thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Octa-core CPU. The phone’s so chill and so smooth thanks to the MagicOS 9.0 (Based on Android 15) that even multi-tasking or shifting from one activity to another doesn’t make the overheat. Even hitting the higher resolutions for multimedia and especially for games is such a breeze like I tried games like Genshin Impact and COD Mobile and it did not go nuclear on me at all. Gaming is also covered with it’s Adreno 750 GPU so you can expect smooth frame rates and high quality graphics on display.

And since this is Android 15 already, you can customize a bunch of stuff but at default, the notification can be seen when you swipe down from the right side of the phone and the settings can be found when you swipe down from the left.

Technically speaking, the phone is also a beast as you can see below at the Geek Bench score for the unit:

Battery

One of the Super surprises for the HONOR 400 Pro 5G is the battery life. The 400 Pro 5G comes with a 6000 mAh battery that supports both wired and wireless charging. For wireless charging it Supports up to 20V/5A SuperCharge, compatible with 11V/6A,10V/4A while on wireless you get up to 50W Supercharge. For me though, this is a perfect daily driver phone because it lasts you an entire day. During the review period, it took a while before you even hit the red zone on the battery. I literally went to two consecutive events without charging the phone and it was still up until I went home from the second event. It even had enough juice for me to transfer and do social media postings and some slight editing.

Bottom line, the 6000mAh battery is no joke and proves just how good the phone is. If you’re top consideration for getting a mid-range smartphone is the battery life then this is your best bet.

Sound

HONOR is the only brand of Android phones that really delivers a loud thud in the sound department. By default it’s loud at 100% but wouldn’t you know it, it can go beyond 100 percent volume. That feature comes in handy when your outdoors and you want to drown out the sounds around you with your loudspeaker. Also comes in handy when you’re outdoors and you need to Facetime somebody or do a video call outdoor.

The sound quality is pretty OK too. The bass has a good ring to it so you can enjoy music anytime.

HONOR 400 Pro 5G Review – Final Thoughts

If you were to make me choose between the regular 400 and 400 Pro 5G, I would definitely suggest you get the latter. For sure it’s bigger than the 400 5G but the camera and the capacity has been pushed further which also assures you that you got money well spent on this phone. For the price tag of ₱39,999 the HONOR 400 Pro 5G is a good investment. It’s also available in two colors namely Lunar Grey and Midnight Black.
