After so much speculation, Disney has finally announced that actress Halle Bailey has been cast as Ariel for their upcoming Little Mermaid live-action adaptation. Well at least, that’s the unconfirmed reports going around the Internet today.
The actress stars in the series Grown-ish from Freeform and is also half of the group Chloe x Halle. The announcement of her casting was done by the film’s director Rob Marshall. In a recent statement, Marshall was quoted:
After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role.
OK then.
In the wake of the announcement, the Chloe x Halle Twitter account posted this:

The sister duo gained a lot of ground after being taken in by Queen B herself, Beyonce and has since seen their career flourished. Aside from the 2017 series Grown-ish, they have recorded numerous tracks as a duo leading up to their Grammy moment…
Oh and since they already announced Ariel, it will only be a matter of time before Disney closes the book on getting Melissa McCarthy to play the villain Ursula which has been another speculation.
